Poem dated 6/29/2021 —
So It Has Borne, So Shall It Be Borne
by Noah Gallagher
People, busy people
Press the Earth beneath their feet
And give no regard
To the elements’ heart
The Lordship that brought them from the deep.
~
The weight, the awesome weight
That Earth must carry is immense
Mountains for bones
And flora for clothes
And blood running out of its hands.
~
Like children, petty children
We scar the Earth for sport
We give it shame
And carve our name
To claim a whole planet ourselves.
~
The gift, the precious Earthly gift
Wrapped in trees and snow and water
That beacon, that home
Was built for the goal
Of the Scions to bear it in turn.
