Poem dated c. November 2020–
The Long Nap
by Noah Gallagher
I’m going to go to sleep
Until the world ends
I won’t bother with coming days;
Waking life has too much strife
Pain and death and sadness
Can’t trouble me when I’m in bed
Wars of words to draw me in?
I’m afraid I will be snoozing
Against the dreary day-to-day,
You’ll hear my wide mouth snoring
While I snuggle in my dreams,
Old right ‘n’ wrong will rage along
Good luck to you; you have my word,
I’ll check the score at crack of dawn
With a smiling face, I’ll say goodnight
Until some distant, wished-for day
When this wacky world of ours—
Its turmoil and absurdity—
Is through and done with, I’ll awake
And rise and stretch and give a yawn
And be quite pleased, well-rested too,
When all crazy things are gone.
