Poem dated 3/26/23–
Because
by Noah Gallagher
I always like to speak with you
Because I love your heart;
The things that make you You
And the good things You can do.
I want to struggle with you
Because I love your needs;
The burdens I can try to ease
The worries I can soothe and share.
I ever love to hold you
Because I love your being;
Your eyes and ears, your hands and toes
All pieces joined in forming You.
I love to give my time to you
For I appraise you priceless;
There’s nothing I can do for me
More valuable than aiding you.
I want to suffer with you
Because I love your joy;
I ache to see you hurt, or lost
I dream to see You running free.
I will always walk with you
Because I love your journey;
Where you started, where you’ve come
And where you yet can go.
I love to forgive you
Because I know our path;
Its wayward turns–long, lonely hikes
The scars that it will give You.
I beg your forgiveness too
For my kindness must mean more
Than the many ways that I have erred
Or any darkness you shall face.
You cannot, must not, hurt alone
Thinking love means little
For the path you’re forced to walk.
I will you always to remember:
Where’er you go, there I shall be
Because I want to suffer with you.
