REVIEW: Rise of the Planet of the Apes (And More!)

I freaking love the Planet of the Apes franchise.

Ever since my dad introduced me to the original films I’ve found them captivating and entertaining. Over the years I’ve seen all nine films and I can confirm, it is indeed a madhouse. I just got around to rewatching the first film in the reboot trilogy, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and I had to talk about how much I love these movies.

OPINION: “They” And The Destruction Of Language

There’s been an increasing push in the last half-decade or so for the normalization of “gender neutral language.”

I’m not going to be addressing the merits of that push in this article, but let me preface my words by saying that I acknowledge that there are indeed merits. What I’m talking about today is the major downside that these efforts are bringing upon the English language.

OPINION: What’s The Point of Horror?

I’m a fan of horror. I’m releasing a horror novel at the end of this year, and I released a sci-fi/horror novel earlier this year.

But I have to admit, I’m not the biggest fan of horror that ever was. For me, it’s hard to find good horror stories. There’s lots of horror I’m just never going to watch or read. (I’ll never touch a Stephen King novel, for instance. Nothing against the man, but his style–both the writing style and the sheer quantity of adult content–just doesn’t jibe with me.)
